HALH Award 2024
This year awards were made to Ruth Jeavons for her major contribution towards promoting the history and heritage of Wheathampstead, to Dawn Pitts for her outstanding commitment to furthering Local History in Sarratt and to Theo van de Bilt for his major contribution to researching and recording the history of Sawbridgeworth and its environs.

NOMINATIONS FOR AN AWARD FOR PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT
Specific guidelines are laid down, and any kind of personal achievement will be considered by our Awards Panel. The practice of Local History is diverse, and the purpose of this scheme is to identify and publicise good practice in whatever form it appears within Hertfordshire.
Nominations must be made by submitting the nomination form (below), with the agreement of the person nominated. Each year the winners will be invited to receive their certificates at the Spring Meeting on the second Saturday in May.
The award for personal achievement will be given to those who have made a significant contribution to local history in Hertfordshire.
Criteria:
The candidate must have promoted local history actively, been a disseminator of local history and made a significant voluntary contribution to the work of a local society and advanced the cause of local history, e.g. acted as honorary curator of local museum, created data bases of local material, helped mount exhibitions, been involved in society publications, been an active committee and society member.

- The candidate must have been active for at least 5 years although length of service is not a major criterion
- The award will not be granted for publications only
- The award will not be granted for academic achievement
- The award will not be granted for professional achievement
- The candidate does not have to be a member of HALH

Des Turner for his dedicated work recording the history of Aston since the 1960s and his campaign to establish a museum there.
Philippa Parker of Letchworth for her dedicated work and remarkable achievements in Letchworth Garden City.
2022
Peter Boylan from Braughing Local History Society received the HALH Award in 2022 for his outstanding contribution to the knowledge and enjoyment of local history through his passion for Braughing’s past.
2021
Diana Parrott from Harpenden Local History Society was the recipient of the HALH Award in 2021 for her work over 35 years, as Newsletter editor, Acting Secretary, website editor and researcher.
2020
Mike Bass, local history photographer, founding committee member of Tring & District Local History & Museum Society and former newsletter editor, technical expert and publisher of pictorial histories of Tring. 'No Tring Christmas event would be the same without his extensive historic surveys of various aspects of Tring life'.
Gill Cordingley, active member and former chairman of Hertford & Ware Local History Society, local historian, local history volunteer and author. 'She has done much to foster the study of local history in the Hertford locality'
John Warwick, president and founding member of Codicote Local History, Society, author of local history articles, recorder of Codicote's oral histories and driving force behind the society's exhibitions. 'The powerhouse and inspriation for all the society's activities for 40 years'

Jon Mein for his outstanding and far ranging work with St Albans & Hertfordshire Architectural & Archaeological Society (SAHAAS) and his huge support and encouragement to other local historians.
2018
Mike Neighbour, local historian and author, with a passionate interest in the Fleetville area of St Albans, who has done much to research and promote its history.
2017
Robin Webb, custodian, team leader and guide at Cromer Windmill, who has made a huge contribution to its restoration and upkeep.
Alan Hickman, custodian, guide and honorary treasurer of Cromer Windmill, who has also made a huge contribution to the restoration and upkeep of the windmill.
