'New Towns, Our Town'
- a compilation from the British Film Institute of rare archive film of New Towns across the South East including Stevenage, Hemel Hempstead, Hatfield & WGC from 1928 to 1982. Featuring glimpses of the original rural landscapes before they were transformed for new arrivals from a London devastated by the Blitz, this collection of rare archive films sheds light on the experiences of the Towns’ early pioneers as well as following generations. Promotional films by the Development Corporations that oversaw construction, television documentaries from the UK and beyond, as well as amateur footage from residents themselves, reveal how these ground-breaking towns have been continually reshaped in and by the public imagination. The film is available to community organisations in Hertfordshire to hire for £20 +VAT (a reduction of 80% of the commercial rate) more information ~ www.independentcinemaoffice.org.uk/films/new-towns-our-town/ Guardian article www.theguardian.com/cities/2019/may/15/sterile-or-stirring-britains-love-hate-relationship-with-new-towns |
