Regional networking meetings for researchers and local societies

HALH has put in place arrangements so that those who are excited by our Hertfordshire past can get together to discuss their enthusiasms and share what they are doing. It is envisaged that in future years ideas for collaborative projects will come from local societies. Regional meetings have taken place which brought together local history societies and individuals involved in projects and research in and around Codicote, Hertford, Hitchin, Pirton and St Albans. These meetings have provided a forum for sharing information and making contact with others working in the same field and have proved very popular. HALH is making a small amount of funding available to cover the costs such as hall hire.

Examples of areas of research and short talks from one of our regional meetings:

David Short  Ashwell….The Guildhouse of St John the Baptist in Ashwell
Brendan King Baldock…. The Mike Salisbury Archive on medieval North Herts
Philippa Parker  Letchworth .... WW1CO project in Letchworth
Alan Fleck  Hitchin …. Sources for Local History in Hitchin Museum
Helen Hofton  Pirton ….WW2 in Pirton
David Croft  Norton ….Transcribing papers from cases in the 1590s at the Court of Chancery and the Court of the Star Chamber.
Gil Burleigh  Ashwell ….Latest archaeology from Pirton and Ashwell where a Roman and early Saxon site has been discovered.
Bridget Howlett Hitchin ....Tracing the history of properties in Hitchin town centre back from the 1816 map of Hitchin to surveys of the Manor of Hitchin in 1676 and 1556. Casting light on how the town centre developed in the later medieval period.
